Also reffered to as False Acacia, the Locust Tree is of light and graceful proportions, its branches being long, slender and grown as an ornamental tree in Britain for hundreds of years. The leaves are long and narrow, broken up into a large number of small oval leaflets. Watch out for the sharp spines found at the base of the leaf stalk and can grow up to an inch long. The flowers, of similar pea-shape to those of the Laburnum, are white and fragrant. They are in long loose racemens , which droop from the axils of the leaves in May. The seed pods are thin and dark brown in appearance.
