Originating in Europe. Native Common Alder is a fast growing and hardy tree, particularly useful in windbreak planting, roadsides and wet soils. Height up to 20 m. Tolerates moist soils and temporary flooding, deep brown bark and large oval leaves. The tree produces numerous catakins that remain on branches throughout the autumn and winter. Wind resistant, great resilience when cutting back. Crown elongated-ovate.
