The Quercus palustris ‘Green Pillar’ is a novelty among columnar trees. As opposed to others of its species, this new variety of the bog oak stays very narrow. Thanks to its narrow growth habit, Quercus palustris ‘Green Pillar’ is highly suitable as an avenue tree, especially in narrow streets. This columnar tree grows very uniformly, and the branches do not sag. This tree will grow 3 metres in width and 12-18 metres in height. The dark green, shiny leaves turn deep red in autumn, which makes it a great solution to add accents to a public space.
The ‘Green Pillar’ thrives in humid, permeable and slightly acidic soil, but it is not suitable for heavy clay soil. It is resistant to air pollution, and it is a fast grower that can easily grow 300 years old in the right location.
